It is hard to find, the Anticalama in Torre Speccato, some how it hides itself quite well in the center of the little village. We started our search in the beginning twilight, which did not support the finding at all. We were told they deliberately forgo installing signs as well as common advertising; they would like to attract and find conscious guests, with a certain demand for high quality and slow food, who appreciates the atmosphere.
When we entered the property through the small door in the outside wall, we were impressed; an old mansion with an agriculturally outbuilding mark the beginning of a wide olive orchard. In fact, the outbuilding used to house the old olive mil and now forms the setting for the Anticalama ristorante. It is a perfect setting. The massive stonewalls of the house give off warmth and peace and invite to long cosy dinner events while the garden offers shady tables for a perfect summer meal. Everything is designed for a restful and comfy stay, equally so the food. All courses are explained in detail and do not allow any rush. The portions are big and filling. Acutally, this evening – our first time at the Anticalama – we shared the recommended antipasta della casa. The antipasta was delicious, and a lot! Starting with fried vegetable and vegi pastry, right through to various cheeses, ham and speck, together with bread and wine. We soon came to the conclusion, that we have to return in order to taste all the variants of homemade pasta and that we will need to go for a long long run before! Hence we booked a table for Sunday, lunchtime in the garden.
The weather was great on Sunday and invited to enjoy lunch outside. We had great, homemade pasta, salat, coniglio and agnello, followed by a great cake, coffee and – yes, homemade – liqueur. A perfect meal in a perfect setting, worth to be found.Anticalama
