Indeed it is different, the Furni Russi Tenuta, different in many aspects than other design hotels and estates in Southern Italy and one needs to allow time to get used to and to sense the spirit. We were surprised to find the Furni Russi, which is located only a couple of km’s outside of Otranto in the middle of a huge fig grove. We were told that it is the biggest one in Europe with its more than 4500 trees. The estate is well secured behind two walls, whereby the first one surrounds the fig grove and the second one the inner grounds. The resulting circuit literally offers itself as a perfect path alongside of the outer wall which they prepared as a running course. Really the first ‘private’ running course we found in Southern Italy. Walking towards the main building one realizes quickly that also the outdoor pool is different. At the Furni Russi it is not ‘simply’ a pool, but a ‘laghetto’, a pond of hefty 1000 m2, truly beautiful arranged.
The foyer was – at a first glance – puzzling and again very different. It’s a lofty hall with few dividing screens, a chill-out area and sofas, too big to reach the tables from a sitting position. Close-by to the foyer is the restaurant situated, designed in the same style and colors.
The rooms are behind the main building, located in two straight, long wings, and entered through big, glass sliding-doors. The interior is clear, light, cozy and convenient and spacious. The highlight for all sun worshipper might be the private patio, inviting to sun bath and relax.
So we followed our routine and went for a long run around the little village and of course added an extra round following the private running course along the outer wall, enjoyed some sushi at the restaurant, worked and studied inside and took a nice sun bath on our private terrace. And still felt, it is different, the Furni Russi tenuta.Furni Russi Tenuta
