Less than an hour north from Auckland city you’ll find Matakana Coast with its beaches, wineries, bistros, cafes, pubs and the well-known Matakana Village Farmer’s Market. The market is tight, with a lot of stalls offering a variety of great food and great people. Yet the most popular place in Matakana is definitely the village pub, called The Matakana. It’s run by a groovy young couple and the place is packed. It is the heart of the community, just like an English pub offering simple good-value food. There is plenty of outdoor seating, including a large fireplace inviting to hang out and enjoy time, beers and friends…
Thinking about where to emigrate to in New Zealand, Matakana definitely would be an option. Simply because of its beauty and the closeness to Auckland: you’d not only get one’s cake but you also would get to eat it!
You’ll get beautiful remote landscape yet vibrant and hip and you’ll also get the big city around the corner. However, that’s surely the reason why you also find horrific traffic jams towards Matakana for the weekend and backwards to Auckland on Sunday evenings. And, the frequency of Porsche’s, Bentley’s and Maserati’s is definitely significantly higher than every elsewhere in New Zealand – that’s for sure!
