There are a lot of great, recommended places to eat and relax, yet Fleurs Place is again special. There is something about this place, a restaurant, cafe and bar right on the waterfront at the old jetty in Moeraki. Their specialty is fresh fish straight from the fishing boats, landing at Moeraki Bay. The restaurant was opened in 2002, shortly before we arrived the first time. The place is established on an early whaling station and truly has spirit and atmosphere.
However, diners don’t have to be rich and famous to eat at Fleur’s Place – they just need to be there in time to find a table in the tiny restaurant / café / bar on the Moeraki Wharf that has earned iconic status in New Zealand’s cuisine heritage.
Fleur Sullivan opened this place, after years in hospitality including 20 years as owner and host of the award-winning Central Otago establishment Oliver’s restaurant and lodge at Clyde.
It’s fun to watch Fleur Sullivan and it’s fun to enjoy the atmosphere.
No less famous is the Riverstone Kitchen a little outside of Oamaru. Also a place with atmosphere, but very different to Fleurs Place. The food is super tasty and the lemon cake simply a dream!
In case you would like to stay in Moeraki, there is Noah’s Boutique Accommodation nearby Fleurs Place, a very nice little place to stay.
